Keiko went to Steveston, the old Japanese fishing port, and brought back salmon, prawns and three urchins, each bigger than a baseball and still waving its spikes. Strange feeling, to hold one and feel it try to move across my palm. I was aware that I was holding a living creature and that in the near future I was going to eat it. Was it feeling fear? Perhaps just a vague sense of discomfort, that things were not as they had been in the past. They make their way by hydraulic pressure, pumping water in and out of their tube feet. They have hundreds of these.
